$$alpha$$-$$gamma$$ coincidence spectroscopy for the $$alpha$$ decay of $$^{259}$$No has been performed at the JAEA tandem accelerator facility to study nuclear shell structure of superheavy nuclei. The decay scheme of $$^{259}$$No has been established for the first time, and spin-parity and neutron single-particle configuration of the ground state of $$^{259}$$No have been identified. It was found that many theoretical calculations could not reproduce the ground-state configuration of the nuclei with 157 neutrons, which implies that the deformation of the nuclei with more than 157 neutrons would be substantially different from theoretical predictions.

Estimation of limit of stability of nuclei considering spontaneous fission in the heavy and super-heavy nuclidic region, 2

Koura, Hiroyuki; Tachibana, Takahiro*; Chiba, Satoshi

no journal, ,

Based on the KUTY nuclear mass formula, we calculate spontaneous-fission, proton-emission and alpha-decay half-lives in the super-heavy nuclidic region and discuss the limit of existence of nuclei. Regarding the spontaneous fission, we prepare potential energy surfaces (PES) by using the spherical-basis method we have developed, and then calculate the WKB penetration probabilities on the energy surfaces with a penetrating particle having a variable mass parameter. We show some predictions of decay modes of unknown super-heavy nuclei. In the superheavy, neutron-rich region, a border of existence of nuclei is given by the spontaneous fission instead of the proton emission. If we choose the minimum half-lives of 10$$^{-9}$$ s, the upper limit of the proton number is obtained as $$Zapprox136$$ for $$Napprox184$$, $$Zapprox142$$ for $$Napprox228$$, and $$Zapprox174$$ for $$Napprox308$$. Furthermore, a line of the spontaneous-fission half-lines of 10$$^{-9}$$ second crosses the neutron-drip line around $$Napprox 330$$. The total number of nuclides in this region is estimated to be approximately 11,000.

Masses of unstable nuclei and the equation of state of asymmetric nuclear matter

Oyamatsu, Kazuhiro*; Iida, Kei*; Koura, Hiroyuki

no journal, ,

The symmetry energy density derivative coefficient $$L$$ in the symmetry energy of the equation of state of the nuclear matter must affect masses and radii of unstable nuclei. In the previous work we have investigated a sensitivity of $$L$$ to the nuclear radii and applied for the possibility of existence of the "pasta" nuclei in the neutron-star crust. In this work we examine a sensitivity of $$L$$ to the nuclear masses in the light nuclidic region up to nickel isotopes. We extract a macroscopic feature from the nuclear masses based on the Yamada-Matsumoto-type systematics, and try to give a value of $$L$$ determined by the experimental masses. We will discuss an ambiguity of $$L$$ in this presentation.
